To lose the weight, I went from three large meals a day to six small meals, mostly made of fresh vegetable salads with lean meats and nuts. And no more bread!”
The first step you should undertake is drinking as much water as possible during a day. This is required in order to get rid of toxins, which have accumulated in your body. I was looking through my Facebook feed today and I saw a friend post something like “If it tastes good, spit it out.”. Meaning that it is unhealthy and couldn’t possibly be good for you. I thought this was so odd, because, you guys, I’ve been eating healthy and I make some REALLY yummy things! So I thought I’d just jot down a few things I’ve been eating lately that are healthy. I’m not perfect. I could probably get in more fruits and veggies, and I’m totally working on that. So besides the obvious, here are a few things I eat, that maybe you could eat too! Then you can eat healthy and won’t feel like you’re depriving yourself.
Lately, I’ve really been into…
Scrambled egg whites, light cheese and salsa. I use real eggs (it’s the only way to go, dudes). I use 4-5 egg whites and one whole egg. Beat and scramble it up. Do a little dance while you’re doing that (what? dancing burns calories). Then add the light cheese (if you want, you can totally leave that out to make it healthier), then the salsa. To me, it tastes FANTASTIC. I don’t feel deprived at all.
Egg whites from Trader Joe’s. They sell these flavored egg whites in little containers… you can get either Ranchero or Chive and Green Onion. I toast a fat free english muffin (use whole wheat to be even healthier!), put 1/2 of the container of the egg whites on top of both slices (the container is small) and put it back in the toaster oven to heat up the egg whites just a bit and BAM. So awesome. And that yummy snack (or breakfast, as I like) is like 160 calories.

Apples. I don’t know if apples are in season right now, or if they never go out of season or WHAT, but dizzamn. I had an apple tonight and it was delicious! I was snooping around in the kitchen tonight (awful, I know) and made the decision to eat something sweet, but that was still good for me. I saw that apple sitting there and man oh man… it hit the spot! Try it with natural peanut butter, too!
Edamame. I don’t know how to spell that, sorry. But anyway, I like to buy frozen edamame still in the shell. It feels like you’re eating A LOT because you have to work a little bit to get to it, so it takes a while. Plus, it’s high in protein!
Baked potato. Some people may disagree with this, since it’s a carb, but whatever. I like that it’s not a processed food, so I’m all for it. Instead of sour cream, I use plain non fat greek yogurt. That way I can use A LOT and not feel guilty, and it ups my protein count. And it’s actually REALLY good. I promise! If you can’t tell, I’m really trying to up my protein! Sometimes I slack off on it, being a vegetarian and all. Anyway, I’ll also put fake bacon bits on it and OH MY GOD. One of my favorite. dinners. ever. And still pretty low cal.
Pasta with vegetables. My awesome friend Jaime was in town a few weeks ago, and we (mostly she) whipped this up really quickly and it was SO good! Sauté up some veggies (I like bell peppers, corn and zucchini). While that’s going, cook your whole wheat pasta. Once the veggies are where you’d like them, add the pasta sauce and cook them in there for a few minutes. Then, drain your pasta, add everything together and top with little fresh basil! We also put a little bit of cheese on top, but I really couldn’t even taste it, so I don’t do that anymore. What’s the point in having extra calories if you can’t taste them?!
Those are just a few samples of yummy, and pretty healthy things you can eat. I’m no chef, so it’s all really easy to make I hope I’ve changed your mind a little bit about healthy eating!
